What is the AMAX "Scale-Out" NAS?
AMAX's Scale-Out NAS solutions are based on the philosophy of a virtually unlimited file size and designed for rapid data growth in file or unstructured data environments without the performance or management limitations associated with traditional NAS systems. There is no concept of storage controllers or NAS heads. Instead, the AMAX system is composed of host nodes + JBODs with each node seen as a peer within the cluster. These nodes are clustered together over a common high-speed network interconnect, such as FDR Infiniband (56Gb/s) or 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10Gb/s), for ultra-low latency, high-bandwidth storage access.
Why AMAX Scale-Out NAS?
AMAX's Scale-Out NAS solutions deliver many benefits, particularly for those who store and deliver an abundance of digital rich media content. The lack of a head node controller in the architecture means the system does not have the natural performance limitations in both I/O capability and data throughput to and from the cluster. Each host node includes CPU and high-speed network interconnects attached to JBODs, allowing the system can scale linearly. With AMAX's design, as you add additional capacity, you are also increasing I/O and throughput performance. Additionally, AMAX's Scale-Out NAS solutions take full advantage of a global namespace and a parallel, fault tolerant, self-healing, distributed file system, granting unprecedented performance and reliability for your data.
